Proverbs 27:19
As in water the face is reflected as a face, so a person's heart reflects the person.
There are some Proverbs so cryptic, so layered in the way they hit, that you almost miss the weight of them on the first read. You’ve got to sit with them. Reflect on them. Let them whisper back to you.
I call these the ‘Snatch the Pebble Level Proverbs’.
Now for my folks wondering what I mean by that, let me take you back for a second. Back in the 70s, there was this show called "Kung Fu"—some of y’all remember it. The quiet monk, the dusty roads, the flashbacks of wisdom. But here’s what you may not know: that show? That concept? It was Bruce Lee’s idea.
Yea, that’s right Bruce Lee pitched a series called The Warrior, centered around a Shaolin monk in the Wild West. But The Warrior idea got rejected cold—only to reappear as a new show titled “Kung Fu” under Warner Bros., starring David Carradine. Why not Bruce Lee? Because Hollywood wasn’t ready to let an Asian man lead a show rooted in Asian wisdom. Carradine, though of European descent, had ‘exotic’ facial features—and with some makeup, imagination, and that ever present silent force of racism, the story went forward without its original voice and it actually became a hit."
Now I’m not here to hate—I’m just calling balls and strikes. Without Carradine and Kung Fu, maybe there’s no Keanu and Matrix. But facts are facts: Bruce sparked it.
And if you’re from my generation, you remember the scene. The Master holds out a tiny stone and says:
“If you can snatch the pebble from my hand… it will be time for you to leave.”
That was it. That was the goal. When the student finally does it—boom, transformation achieved."
Let’s look at one of those ‘snatch the pebble level’ wisdom sayings found in Proverbs 27:19
“As water reflects the face, so one’s heart reflects another.”
Yes sir...
So much in depth in those 10 words.
It’s about that deep mirroring connection—spirit to spirit, heart to heart. That’s why conversations, books, teachings, and just being around people of greatness can change your life. You start to reflect what you’re exposed to."
So what’s the point? Purposely expose yourself to greatness. Even if most of what’s being said and done is over your head…if you stick with it, before you know it you’ll start reflecting that same greatness.
Prayer
Lord, help me reflect the greatness I’m connected to.
Today’s Challenge
Reach out to someone who reflects the greatness you admire. Send a text. Watch a video. Read their words. Take notes. Then go reflect them.
